The Status of Virtual Objects

《The Status of Virtual Objects》 is an exhibition that draws on augmented reality (AR) and the visual novel format to invite viewers to experience familiar urban space and exhibition space in a new way.

Through a smartphone, viewers look at the surrounding streets and spaces, directly exploring the process through which previously unseen elements are revealed. Across the exhibition’s three-part scenario — main story, side quest, and post-credits scene — they encounter different relationships between the urban environment, the viewer, and the meaning of interaction.

Rather than treating AR as a simple virtual layer superimposed upon the “real” world, the exhibition asks us to understand virtual objects as part of the relationships that contribute to the formation of reality. In doing so, it encourages us to reconsider how what we call reality is constructed, and whether what is invisible or considered virtual can also occupy a place within reality itself.

《The Status of Virtual Objects》는 증강현실(AR)과 비주얼 노블 형식을 활용해 우리가 익숙하게 알고 있는 도시와 전시 공간을 새로운 방식으로 경험하게 하는 전시이다.

관람객은 스마트폰을 통해 현실 속 거리와 공간을 바라보게 되고, 이를 통해 보이지 않던 요소들이 드러나는 과정을 직접 탐색하게 된다. 이를 통해 메인스토리, 사이드 퀘스트, 포스트 크레딧(쿠키영상)으로 구성된 전시의 시나리오 속에서 도시환경, 관객의 역할, 상호작용의 의미를 다르게 경험한다. 

이 전시는 AR(Augmented Reality) 기술을 현실 위에 단순한 가상의 부차적인 층위를 덧붙이는 것이 아니라, 현실을 구성하는 다양한 관계 중 하나로 보기를 요구한다. 이를 통해 우리가 '현실'이라고 인식하는 것이 어떻게 구성되는지, 또한 보이지 않는, 가상으로 여겨지는 것도 현실의 일부가 될 수 있는지를 생각해보게 한다.
