Phosphenes Dialectic

《Phosphenes Dialectic》 is the result of a great interest  in the collective consciousness of democracy and an anthropological approach to inherited trauma caused by past and present political landmarks. A conversation between the current democratic state of South Korea ,the recent declaration of the Martial Law and the unconscious impact of 5·18 (May 18th Uprising) on the younger generations living in Gwangju. Moving from testimonies of youth to reflections on utopian political expressions, the exhibition transitions from a sociopolitical perspective of the present into a realm of intimacy. It is a journey of the written events translating the unspoken, from logos to pathos as visitors move between the exhibition rooms.

《Phosphenes Dialectic》은 민주주의의 집단적 의식에 대한 깊은 관심과, 과거와 현재의 정치적 사건들이 남긴 세대 간 트라우마를 인류학적 시선에서 탐구하려는 접근에서 출발하며, 오늘날 대한민국 민주주의의 현실과 광주에 살아가는 젊은 세대의 무의식 속에 남아 있는 5·18 민주화운동의 영향 사이의 대화로서 제시된다. 

사회정치적 관점에서 시작하는 이 전시는, 청년들의 증언에서 유토피아적 정치 표현에 대한 성찰로 이어짐에 따라 점차 내밀한 영역으로 이동한다. 관람객이 전시 공간을 따라 이동하는 동안, 기록된 사건들은 말해지지 않은 것들을 번역하는 하나의 여정으로 펼쳐지며 로고스에서 파토스로, 즉 이성적 서사에서 감정과 정서의 차원을 향해 옮겨간다.
