SMALL SPACES, LARGE ISSUES

SMALL SPACES, LARGE ISSUES presents works by Hannes Buchwieser (DE), developed at the Ars Electronica Center Bio Lab and previously exhibited at the Ars Electronica Festivals since 2023.

Through microscopy, moving image, sound, and interactive media, the exhibition explores the invisible structures that shape both biological life and human society. By shifting between microscopic and human scales, Buchwieser questions established perceptions of value, truth, identity, and ecological responsibility, inviting viewers to reconsider the systems that quietly govern everyday life. 

Presented at the Glass Polygon of Horangasy Creative Studio, Gwangju, the exhibition is realized in cooperation with Horangasy Creative Studio (Korea) and Semmelweisklinik Vienna (AT), with support of the Austrian Embassy Seoul.

《SMALL SPACES, LARGE ISSUES》는 비엔나를 기반으로 활동하는 작가 Hannes Buchwieser가 아르스 일렉트로니카 센터 바이오랩에서 발전시키고 발표한 작업을 소개합니다.

작가는 현미경 이미지와 영상, 사운드, 인터랙티브 미디어를 활용해 생물학적 생명과 인간 사회를 형성하는 보이지 않는 구조들을 탐구합니다. 미시적 세계와 인간의 규모를 오가며 가치와 진실, 정체성, 생태적 책임에 대한 기존의 인식에 질문을 던집니다. 이를 통해 관람객들이 우리의 일상을 조용히 지배하고 있는 다양한 체계와 구조를 새로운 시선으로 바라보도록 이끕니다. 

이번 전시는 광주 호랑가시나무 글라스폴리곤에서 개최되며, 호랑가시나무창작소와 오스트리아 빈 제멜바이스클리니크의 협력, 주한 오스트리아 대사관의 후원으로 마련되었습니다.
